Why it doesn't hallucinate
Four gates.

A fluent brief with one invented citation in it is the outcome that ends careers. LVAI Pro's research commands run under four gates that are preconditions for producing output at all — not guidance the model can talk itself out of.
A real opinion database, or nothing.
Before the first search, LVAI Pro detects your legal-research connector — Midpage or Descrybe — and confirms its opinion database is reachable. If neither is connected, it stops and tells you how to connect one. It never substitutes the model's recollection, a web search, or "a starting point subject to your review."
A ledger written as it reads.
Each authority is recorded the moment the research service returns it — citation, URL, court, year and the opinion text, byte for byte. A case that is not in the ledger cannot appear in your document. Then a separate sub-agent, given only the list of citations, looks every case up again.
An integrity check before delivery.
Before you see a draft, an independent checker compares every citation and every quotation against the ledger and confirms that the second lookup agrees with the first; for a /verify report, it also confirms that every citation in the brief is accounted for. A fabricated citation, an altered quote or a missing citation fails the check, and nothing is delivered until it is fixed at the source or the passage is cut.
Plain language about what was checked.
Every delivery states what the check established — authorities real, quotations verbatim — and what it did not: whether the holding fits your facts, whether the case is still good law, whether the argument is sound. Every /verify report ends with a verification certificate that records it. You sign the filing; you know which layer of assurance you're getting.
The protocol behind every citation.
Verified citation and verified holding — both, before a case is ever written into a document.
- Only holdings the opinion actually states, with their scope and centrality. If the opinion doesn't address your point, the case is dropped.
- Every quotation comes from the located passage — never a paraphrase presented as a quote.
- Every citation links to the opinion on Midpage or Descrybe — in
/verifyreports and binders, on Midpage, to the quoted passage itself. No guessed URLs; a pin cite comes only from the opinion's own page markers, and is otherwise marked not verified. - Negative citator treatment is surfaced, not buried — and in
/verify, read in the later court's own words.
What /verify checks — and shows you.
Run it on every brief you file — and on every brief the other side files. What the Citation Verification Report gives you:
- Every citation accounted for.The report covers every case and statute citation found in the brief. If one is missing, the integrity check fails and the report is not delivered.
- Fake citations named.When a reporter number opens a different case, the citation is marked NOT FOUND and the report names the case it actually leads to.
- Quotations traced.A quotation that isn't word for word in the cited opinion is searched for across the research service's opinions — on both services when both are connected. Found in another case, altered, or found nowhere: the report says which, and shows an altered quotation word by word against the court's text.
- Treatment in the later court's words.Negative or cautionary treatment is followed into the later cases — up to three per authority — and each is classified (followed, distinguished, criticized, questioned, limited, overruled) from that court's own words, quoted with a link.
- Statutes, too.Each statute the brief cites is checked against its text — on the research service; when the service doesn't carry that state's code, on Onecle's copy of the code (dated, so you know how old it is) or as quoted in an opinion — and otherwise plainly marked “not checked”. Never skipped in silence.
- Looked up twice.A separate sub-agent, given only the list of citations and never the report, looks every case up again; if the two lookups disagree, the report is corrected before you see it. (If no sub-agent can be started, Claude redoes the lookups from the bare list, and the certificate says so.)
- At a glance, and a certificate.The report opens with an At-a-glance table of every authority and its status, and ends with a verification certificate: services used, coverage, the re-lookup and the integrity result.
- A CSV of every finding.One row per claim and per statute — authority, status, where it sits in the brief, the issue — ready for a spreadsheet or your case file.
/correctas tracked changes.Each fix arrives as a real Word tracked change with a comment explaining why, and the corrected copy is verified again. You accept or reject each change in Word.

Midpage is the more accurate of the two and has the statutes built in; without Midpage, statutes link to the section's page on law.onecle.com.

A seat is a person. Each seat works on one Claude account at a time; a second sign-in signs the first one out, and the licensee is told. A two-attorney office with one paralegal is three seats — set the quantity to 3 at checkout, and every person signs in to their own seat.

What do I need before I subscribe?
LVAI Pro runs in Claude Desktop with Cowork on a paid Claude plan (Pro or Max; Team and Enterprise through your organization owner). The phone app and the web app cannot run the file-based commands. You connect Legal Velocity from Claude's own connector directory — Customize → Connectors (older versions: your name → Settings → Connectors) → the Discover tab → search Legal Velocity → Connect — and sign in with the email on your license (a six-digit code is emailed to you; not listed yet? add it by address, https://mcp.legalvelocity.ai/mcp, and the same sign-in follows). You also need a Midpage or Descrybe account if you'll use the research and verification commands — one is enough, and LVAI Pro detects which one you connected (see Legal-research connectors). Google Calendar or Outlook is optional, for date calendaring only. Not sure how any of that works? Which jurisdictions does it cover?
Research, verification, drafting and citation work run on your research service's database of court opinions — Midpage or Descrybe — so they cover the U.S. jurisdictions that service covers (both span federal and all fifty state courts). The real estate commands — intake, riders, closing documents, title review — are built for New Jersey and New York practice.
Where do my client documents go?
Legal Velocity's server receives only the names of the skills, scripts and templates the plugin asks for, and counts them. Your documents stay in your Claude workspace. Case-law lookups go to Midpage or Descrybe under your own account — the citations and the sentences that cite them, never the whole document unless you ask.
Your workspace is governed by Claude's terms with Anthropic; the lookups by your research provider's terms. We never see your documents. Where your data goes follows your data hop by hop — what each service receives and keeps, and which Claude settings suit client work; our own practices are in the privacy policy.
What exactly does "verified" mean?
That every authority in the document was located on Midpage or Descrybe, and that Claude checked each proposition attributed to it against the court's own words. An automated integrity check then confirms, before anything is delivered, that every citation was looked up during the run — and looked up again, independently, normally by a separate sub-agent — that every citation in the brief is accounted for, and that every quotation attributed to a court is word for word. The integrity check is mechanical: it tests the lookups, the coverage and the quotations, not the reading. Whether a case supports a proposition is Claude's comparison, shown to you beside the court's language so you can judge it.
It does not mean the argument is right, that the case is still good law in your jurisdiction, or that the holding fits your facts. Those remain your judgment — and each delivery says so.
What happens if the research service can't find a case on my question?
LVAI Pro tells you plainly that no usable authority was found and sketches the doctrinal framework without specific citations. It will not fill the gap from the model's memory or from a web search — that is precisely the failure it exists to prevent.
Midpage or Descrybe — which one should I use?
Either. Both are professional databases of U.S. court opinions with a Claude connector, and LVAI Pro works the same way on each: it locates every case, reads the opinion's own words, and refuses to cite anything it could not verify. Midpage offers a two-week free trial and then costs $100 per seat per month; Descrybe Legal Engine is $25 per month (prices as published by the providers in September 2026). Use the one you already subscribe to.

How do seats work for my office?
One seat per person. Choose the quantity at checkout; each person signs in to their own seat with the email on the license (or their own address, once we assign the seat to them). A seat works on one Claude account at a time — signing in from a second account signs the first out, and you are emailed. To add someone later, change the quantity in the billing portal and we email the setup guide for the new seat. When someone leaves, their seat is disconnected in seconds.
How does the free trial work?
Enter your work email, then complete checkout with a card. Nothing is charged for three days; on day three the monthly plan starts automatically on that card and your license simply continues — no new file, no new URL, nothing to upgrade. There is no end-of-trial reminder email, so if it isn't for you, cancel before then from the billing portal (/license in Claude shows the link on the primary seat) and you pay nothing.
It's one trial per person or firm: the email address, the card and the network address are all checked, and a second attempt is turned away without a charge. Existing customers don't get a trial — they already know the product.
Why do you ask for a card before the trial?
So that the trial can turn into a working subscription without an interruption on day three, and so that the trial stays honest: a card is what keeps one person from taking three days free over and over under new email addresses. Stripe holds the card; we never see the number, and nothing is charged during the trial.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time, from the billing portal — /license in Claude shows the link on the primary seat. Cancelling stops all future charges; your seats keep working through the end of the period you've paid for, then stop. No forms, no phone calls.
